John Clare Coughenour (born July 27, 1941) [1] is a senior United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. [2] He has taught trial and appellate practice at the University of Washington School of Law .

Judge Coughenour served as Chief Judge of the District from 1998 to 2004. During his time on the bench, he has presided over numerous high-profile trials and delivered several controversial decisions.
