The City of Crystal Lake can trace its origin story back to two separate communities, established in the 1800's, called “Nunda” and “Crystal Lake”. In 1835, Ziba S. Beardsley witnessed the lakeshores and commented the water looked “clear as crystal,” which gave the lake its name.

The Crystal Lake Park District oversees the 238-acre Crystal Lake and its two beaches, many local parks, and numerous recreational facilities and programs. Crystal Lake has so much to offer including an award-winning public library, state-of-the-art healthcare, live theater and musical entertainment, top-rated schools, and much more!
