Welcome to Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden! We’re located at 1000 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301. Our 83-acre campus is open from dawn to dusk, seven days a week, all year round. A note to our visitors: As of April 15, 2024: The North Gate at Richmond Terrace is under repair and will be closed until further notice.
History - Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden
The two organizations merged in 2008 to form Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden. Today, Snug Harbor is a place where history, architecture, visual and performing arts, gardens, agriculture, and education come together and provide dynamic experiences for all ages.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is the result of more than four decades of restoration and development to convert a 19 th century charitable rest home for sailors to a regional arts center, botanical gardens, and public park.

Exit and walk south to blue neon Staten Island terminal to take FREE ferry. After landing in Staten Island take the S40 bus at Gate D to travel along Richmond Terrace, less than a 10-minute ride.

Snug Harbor’s dynamic arts spaces range from the iconic Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art and the 686-seat historic Music Hall theater, to the flexible 75-seat Carpenter’s Shop, Outdoor Stage on the South Meadow, and indoor and outdoor performance spaces of varying scale.

Guests are encouraged to picnic on the grounds of Snug Harbor. There are picnic tables for public use located at Cottage D, along Gazebo Road, and by the Staten Island Children’s Museum at Building M.
