Nov 15, 2021 · Attorneys from Rhode Island Center for Justice and ACLU of Rhode Island have filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of Joseph Shepard, who spent eight months in solitary confinement at ACI for exercising his First Amendment rights. The lawsuit highlights numerous constitutional violations by RIDOC.

Plaintiff Joseph Shepard spent 237 days in segregated confinement at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections in unlawful retaliation for criticizing the Warden and correctional officers at the facility where he was incarcerated.
