A Kenyan and a Ugandan activist detained in Tanzania after travelling to observe a court appearance by a jailed opposition leader are still in custody, Tanzania's Law Society said on Wednesday, after previously saying they had been deported.

Despite initial reports of their deportation, they are held by the Immigration Department amid allegations of a crackdown on government critics under President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Tanzania's President Samia Suluhu Hassan has warned activists from neighbouring Kenya that she will not allow them to "meddle" in her country's affairs and cause "chaos".
