The bill more than doubles the amount of money Texas spends to lure film and TV projects. It has the backing of Texas movie stars including Matthew McConaughey.

At a Senate Finance Committee hearing for Senate Bill 22, actors and Texas natives Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson urged state lawmakers to boost those incentives by passing the bill. SB 22 would put $500 million every two years toward a long-term film incentive fund.

Matthew McConaughey, who has spent more than three decades as an actor, told the Texas Senate Finance Committee on Monday that one of his only regrets is not making more films in Texas.
