Automotive heads up displays (HUDs) have been around as far back as 1988, and while they’ve gotten brighter and more colorful over the years, even today’s most sophisticated implementations still feel a bit primitive.

Hyundai Mobis, an automotive parts supplier, used CES 2025 to show off a new head-up display that stretches the entire width of the windscreen. The company, which supplies parts to Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, hopes to put the next-generation HUD into production by 2027.

Mobis integrated a series of projectors under the vehicle's dashboard, and at CES 2025, the company shared a prototype of the technology through Hyundai Mobis' KIA EV9 with the 'transparent display' which offers a new kind of vehicle-to-driver experience.
