President Donald Trump is reportedly finalizing an Executive Order that would attempt to dismantle the Department of Education, which would fulfill a campaign promise as he seeks to shrink the size of the federal government.

"Trump, Elon Musk, and his henchmen want to lock the promise of public education behind an ivory tower of rich people and throw away the key," U.S. Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said.

The Trump administration and its backers have suggested the department has evolved into a weapon wielded by progressives to enforce “woke” education policies and is a waste of taxpayer dollars. Trump has mused about allocating the department’s funding to the states.
