Stars GM Jim Nill says he plans on conducting an open-minded and wide search for the franchise’s next head coach. But that search will start with looking at a handful of candidates already employed by the franchise.

FRISCO, Texas – Dallas Stars General Manager Jim Nill announced today that Pete DeBoer has been relieved of his head coaching duties. Effective immediately, the search will begin for the next head coach of the Dallas Stars.

While Laviolette isn’t necessarily known for developing young talent, he seems to elevate already established teams. He helped lead both the Philadelphia Flyers and Nashville Predators to Stanley Cup Final appearances while winning a Stanley Cup as the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes.
