Dick Mountain is back, and he's older than ever. The Kansas City Royals plan to call up 45-year-old pitcher Rich Hill from the minors for a start against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, marking the left-hander's 21st season in the majors.

The Chicago Cubs have had a great start to the second half, having a 4-2 record, and will look to take the rubber match this afternoon versus the Kansas City Royals.

The Kansas City Royals placed infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin on the seven-day concussion injured list and recalled outfielder MJ Melendez from Triple-A Omaha before Wednesday afternoon's series finale against the Cubs in Chicago.

"The Cubbies need a starter who can take the ball in the postseason, not just help them navigate the final two months of regular-season innings. Lugo is likely to decline his $15 million player option after the season, so he's a rental, and thus the Royals are expected to cash him in as a trade chip," Axisa wrote.

By calling up Rich Hill for Tuesday's showdown with the Chicago Cubs, the Kansas City Royals put the 45-year-old left-hander in position to make history.
