The Atlantic basin hasn't experienced a below-average hurricane season in a decade. Forecasters sound alarm as new hurricane pattern puts inland cities at risk: 'We could see similar situations this year' first appeared on The Cool Down.

"The 27 billion-dollar disasters in 2024 resulted in $182.7 billion in damages–higher than the average annual amount of events (23) and the average annual cost ($149.3 billion) for the past five years," the NOAA said in a report.

The 2025 list of hurricane names was last used in 2019. This Atlantic hurricane season is expected to have an above-normal number of storms.
