Environment Canada has issued a winter storm watch for Montreal, with heavy blowing snow and severe temperature drop

ECC has issued a winter storm warning in effect for the greater Montreal area, Montérégie, the Laurentians, Lanaudière, Outaouais and Mont-Laurier.

Snowfall amounts could range between 20 and 40 centimetres, starting Wednesday night and into late Thursday. Winter storm warnings are issued when several types of severe winter weather are forecast at once.

Storm Warning is in effect for southern Quebec and eastern Ontario. Winter weather advisory posted for adjacent areas of upstate New York.

Expect very difficult driving conditions region wide on Thursday, if you can work from home. The snow will be accompanied by northeast winds of 20-40km/h creating areas of blowing snow. The high on Thursday will be -3C (27F) in Montreal.

Environment Canada updated its weekly forecast for Quebec on Tuesday, and Montreal has been hit with a weather advisory. A powerful snowstorm is set to hit the city starting late Wednesday, bringing between 20 and 35 cm of snow — much more than the 15 cm originally forecast just a day earlier.

While romance will be in the air this week in the lead up to St. Valentine’s Day on Friday, so will snow — lots of it, blowing everywhere all day Thursday and blanketing Montreal and much of the rest of the province under up to 35 cm of precipitation.
