In late June, a Kroger spokesperson announced the company had “made the difficult decision to close the Sterling store.” The company said closure was expected to occur around Aug. 2.

The locations of the stores to be shuttered have not yet been released. Kroger owns two grocery chains in Arizona: Fry's, which has 130 locations in the state, and Smith's, which has four.
