For over 65 years, Bernice and Frank Monteleone have been raising minks on their farm in Elgin. The couple bought their first mink in 1959 — a red female who was pregnant at the time.

Each female mink should produce two to ten kits a year. By the fourth year it is claimed that a successful breeder on this scale should begin making a yearly profit of $2,500 to $3.500.

The female must have been exhausted (imagine running a 5K with a baby in your mouth for half of the time) and I imagine that she was taking a well-deserved rest.
