Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR) will sell Family Dollar Stores Inc. to private equity firms Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management for approximately $1 billion, the company announced March 26. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter.

Dollar Tree said Wednesday that it has reached a deal to sell its long-struggling Family Dollar chain, 10 years after acquiring it.

Dollar Tree’s decade-long effort to fold the Family Dollar chain into its business is ending after agreeing to sell the bargain store chain to a pair of private equity firms for $1 billion.
