Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif will be banned from all upcoming boxing events until the boxer undergoes newly mandated genetic sex testing, the organization said.

Khelif had pledged to defend Olympic gold at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles, but that route appears to have been irrevocably closed off.

World Boxing announced that all athletes over 18 years old in its competitions must undergo a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) genetic test to determine their sex at birth.
