Wildfire smoke has sparked the national weather agency to issue air quality warnings around the county of Grande Prairie and the northwestern corner of Alberta, and air quality statements for much of northern Alberta.

Poor air quality fuelled by wildfires burning across the Prairies left a large swath of the country enveloped in a haze for another day. Parts of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario,

Showers were expected Tuesday in the area around Edmonton, where some of the province’s wildfires are burning, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. Already, a key road near Swan Hills — in the vicinity of one of the year’s major blazes — has reopened due to the reduced threat.
