A "very active and complex mid-May weather pattern" is settling over states from the central United States through the Mid-Atlantic.

A cold front and developing low-pressure system will bring multiple rounds of showers and severe thunderstorms through early next week, with the greatest threat for damaging storms on Monday and Tuesday across the Plains and Tennessee Valley.

"Severe thunderstorms capable of all severe hazards are expected later today," the Storm Prediction Center forecast.

Severe thunderstorms and high winds caused tornado warnings across several Michigan counties Thursday night and Friday morning. Wind speeds reached 75 mph, causing power outages for more than 250,000 customers. Tornado warnings were issued for Livingston, Oakland, and Lapeer counties, while a tornado watch was in effect for other counties.
