Pope Leo XIV declared himself a Roman on Sunday as he completed the final ceremonial steps cementing his role as the bishop of Rome.

Pope Leo XIV officially took on the role as the new Pope after his grand declaration at St. Peter’s Basilica. The final ceremonial steps of the process were seen through which means the American Pope is now the Bishop of Rome.

Pope Leo XIV Sunday paid visits to the papal basilicas of St. John Lateran, where he was formally installed as Bishop of Rome, and St. Mary Major, assuring Romans of his closeness as their pastor, and stressing the need to walk together in unity.
