An unusual May nor’easter is soaking New England and threatening to bring snow to higher elevations as the states prepared for the Memorial Day holiday weekend
Across Rhode Island, all but one state beach will open for Memorial Day Weekend. Roger Wheeler State Beach is undergoing renovations and won't open until mid-June. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is encouraging beach go-ers to get their passes in advance.

Meteorologist Frank Nocera, also of the Norton branch of the National Weather Service, told USA Today Network on Tuesday of this week that, "It's looking like a mainly dry weekend," adding that the area could experience more "unseasonably cool" temperatures for the rest of this week.
This disruptive type of coastal storm is more typically seen during winter and rarely happens in May. It will bring heavy rain and wind to millions through Friday.
"Tonight's evening commute could be treacherous," meteorologist Kevin Cadima of the National Weather Service branch in Norton, MA said.
