Mongolia has been thrown into fresh political crisis with the country’s prime minister resigning following weeks of protests sparked by his family’s lavish displays of wealth.

Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrain became Mongolia’s Prime Minister in 2021, after gaining prominence by helping to organize mass protests against corruption. Now, after protesters have taken to the streets accusing him of corruption, which he has denied, he’s resigned.

After over two weeks of continuous protests against corruption – centered specifically on Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai – Mongolia’s parliament voted to oust the prime minister in a no-confidence vote.
