The low-pressure area the NHC has been monitoring off Florida's eastern coast will bring heavy rain to the Carolinas before fizzling out.

The National Hurricane Center is tracking the first region of potential cyclone development since the hurricane season kicked off on Sunday. A nontropical area of low atmospheric pressure is expected to develop along the boundary of a stalled front that will be draped between the Carolinas and north Florida this week.

When La Niña sets in during hurricane season, it has the potential to dramatically increase both the number and strength of tropical storms and hurricanes in the Atlantic basin.
