Gosger entered the race having won his last two starts, most recently claiming a victory in the Grade 3 Lexington Stakes in April. The horse is named after former MLB outfielder Jim Gosger, who told Paulick Report's Clark Spencer that being the horses namesake "ranks right up at the top" of his career.

Journalism jostled with horses down the stretch, burst through after the contact and came from behind to win the 150th Preakness Stakes.

Journalism punched his ticket as America's toughest three-year-old as he delivered a power-packed stretch run to beat Gosger in the very last strides of the Preakness.
