WELLINGTON, New Zealand — From Sydney to Vladivostok, communities around the world have begun welcoming 2025 with spectacular light shows, embraces and ice plunges.

Fireworks have been lit in celebration for thousands of years, and this New Year’s Eve is no different. London's New Year's Eve fireworks event is set to go ahead at midnight despite concerns about high winds, a London mayor spokesperson said. They said ticketholders for the event and the "many millions watching around the world" were set for "a spectacular night of fireworks from the banks of the Thames to welcome in the new year".
