NOAA recommends traveling to an unobstructed, high vantage point away from light pollution and facing north between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. local time. The agency noted the best seasons to see auroral activity are between the spring and fall equinoxes.

The northern lights — also called aurora borealis — could be visible in Alaska, Washington, Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan, Maine, northern parts of Idaho, Wyoming, Iowa, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.

Sky-watchers, you're in luck—the northern lights, or aurora borealis, may make another showing in June, above Alaska and the upper Midwest to the Northeast, according to NOAA.
