From hit songs "Hang On, Sloopy" to Hulk Hogan’s theme, guitar hero Rick Derringer left his mark on pop culture.

Rick Derringer, a rock and roll lifer, a force behind the “rock ‘n wrestling” melding of the 1980s and other sporting and music nexuses, is dead. Derringer died Monday in Ormond Beach, Fla. No official cause of death was released,

He later wrote the classic rock anthem “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” and produced parody songs for “Weird Al” Yankovic.
