An investigation has been opened by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board after a United Airlines plane and a Republic Airways jet nearly collided on the runway on May 6.

A near collision between two commercial jets at LaGuardia Airport in New York City earlier this month is under investigation, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed Monday.

Federal officials are investigating after a Republic Airways jet was forced to abort its takeoff to avoid a collision with a United Airlines plane at LaGuardia Airport.
