The calendar reads spring, but a winter storm watch has been issued for parts of northern New England ahead of weekend snow.
Portland woke up to a few inches of snow Saturday morning as a late-season burst of wintry weather hits the state. Much of the state saw between two and five inches as of 8 a.m. Saturday, said Jon Palmer, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Gray office. NWS recorded roughly three inches in Portland Saturday morning.
PORTLAND, Maine — Most of the state was engulfed in snow Monday afternoon. It's just a matter of efficiency. Surface temperatures along the coastline have been marginal through the day with the wind off the water. This allows some accumulation but keeps it fairly minimal close to the immediate coast.
State offices in Maine closed early Monday at 2 p.m. due to “expected hazardous snow conditions,” officials said.
