Albertsons Companies has issued a voluntary recall of multiple store-prepared Greek salad products sold across 12 states and Washington, D.C. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified the alert as a Class I recall—its highest and most urgent warning level.

The tomatoes, recalled for potential salmonella contamination, were shipped to Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Tomatoes potentially contaminated with salmonella in three states could cause severe illness or even death, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning. The agency has updated a May recall of tomatoes that have been distributed in Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina to Class I.
