A little bit of self-persuasion went a very long way for Coco Gauff, whose victory at the French Open gave the 21-year-old American a trophy she has long coveted, and a second major title.

It was the first No. 1 vs. No. 2 final in Paris since 2013, when Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova, and just the second in the last 30 years.

Saturday's final was a rematch of the US Open Final in 2023, where Gauff beat Sabalenka in three sets to win her first major title. Sabalenka came into the French Open Final as the world No. 1 and with plenty of momentum following her win against Iga Świątek in the semifinals.
