In one of the more surprising hires of the college football coaching carousel, Ryan Day and Ohio State Football is finalizing a deal to bring former Detroit Lions head coach Matt Patricia to Columbus as the Buckeyes' next defensive coordinator. Patricia was last in the NFL as a senior defensive assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. However, his contract expired at the end of the season and was not renewed. He held the role of defensive coordinator for the Patriots from 2012-2017, before taking on a head coaching job with the Detroit Lions.

Matt Patricia will be joining the Detroit Lions as the team's next head coach once the New England Patriots season ends and the team could be set to reap some immediate rewards from his assertion.

Matt Patricia was most recently a senior defensive assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2023. He has been coaching since 1996 and has primarily worked as a defensive coach. He also worked with offensive lines, and he was the head coach of the Detroit Lions for three seasons.
