Sarasota law enforcement received more than 30 reports of victims of jury duty scams with losses exceeding $150K, U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg said.

Two suspected scammers have been indicted and arrested for what authorities are calling “a brazen scheme perpetrated by an inmate at a state prison with a cell phone.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced indictments related to an alleged jury duty scam in Sarasota County on Wednesday.

Sanders and Andrews face one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. If convicted, they each face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. Federal prosecutors also say the pair should forfeit $12,825, the alleged proceeds from the scam.
