The Silver Surfer has returned to movie screens, but this time, the character is not who longtime fans were expecting. Instead of the well-known Norrin Radd, Marvel Studios is introducing a different version of the character in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Garner also noted that she’s portraying Shalla-Bal, a female iteration of the Silver Surfer, and not Norrin Radd, the male version of the character who was played Doug Jones and voiced by Laurence Fishburne in 2007’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”
