Human remains were found on a Long Island beach on Monday, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. A man and a woman at Smith Point County Park in Shirley discovered what appeared to be a human jawbone around 5 p.

A pair of beachgoers found "what appeared to be a human jawbone" as they walked Monday afternoon at Smith Point County Park in Shirley, the Suffolk police said. At about 4:55 p.m., police responded to reports of human remains found on the park beach, the department said in a news release Monday evening.

A man and woman walking along a beach on Fire Island stumbled upon human remains Monday, Dec. 23, police announced. The couple was along the beach around 4:55 p.m. when they found what appeared to be a human jawbone on Smith Point County Park Beach in Shirley,

NYPD officials said the latest remains could potentially be from a pelvic bone. They were spotted around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday near 45 Water St., close to Jane’s Carousel and other popular attractions on the East River waterfront. Police said it was unclear who initially made the discovery.
