Polls suggest that most New Yorkers are unfamiliar with Delgado, but he has more than a year to make his case to voters.

Mr. Delgado, New York’s lieutenant governor, said he would take on Gov. Kathy Hochul in next year’s Democratic primary because her tenure had lacked “bold, decisive” leadership.

Delgado faces an uphill battle; recent polling has shown that he remains largely unknown among the statewide electorate — including more than half of Democrats.
