The Buffalo, NY snow storm death toll has risen to 37 as crews work to clear roads and first responders check on people they couldn't reach days ago.

Only 12.3 inches of new snow fell at the Buffalo Airport during the 1977 blizzard, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center, compared to more than 40 inches in this week's storm.

The looming storm drew comparison’s on Thursday to the Great Buffalo Blizzard, which struck the region in November 2014. It dumped more than 5 feet of snow on some parts of the Buffalo area.
