An Air India crash Thursday involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which the aircraft manufacturer first delivered 14 years ago.

Air India said it has completed such safety checks on nine of its Boeing 787 aircraft and is in process to complete it for the remaining 24 planes.

Multiple Indian agencies, including the National Security Guard (NSG), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Air Force, forensic teams, fire and rescue services are inspecting the wreckage of the London-bound Air India jet, which crashed into the rooftop of a doctors’ hostel in Ahmedabad. The area remains fully cordoned off.

The Air India flight fell from the sky on Thursday and killed at least 270 people in Gujarat state, officials said Saturday.

Thursday’s deadly crash struck at Boeing’s most ambitious and one of its most commercially successful jet programs — a coveted airplane that airlines the world over gladly wait years to receive.

Tragedy struck this week when a plane crashed in the city of Ahmedabad just shortly after takeoff, leaving investigators and aviation officials with many questions.

Two days after Air India flight AIC 171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, killing 241 people on board, the civil aviation ministry has launched a sweeping investigation led by the Union home secretary.

Air India and Boeing are in the midst of significant turnarounds, but knowing the cause of the crash of Flight 171 will take a lengthy investigation.

The crash happened just weeks after the company cut a deal with the U.S. government to avoid taking criminal responsibility for a pair of deadly crashes in 2018 and 2019.
