In August, all the businesses attached to Southgate Mall had to close their doors for over a week. Officials explained that was because of a blocked water line that created a fire safety hazard.

The site, located at 3330 S. 30th St. on Milwaukee's south side, was home to the Marcus Southgate Cinema before the theater closed in September 2023. Previously, a banquet hall use was not permitted.
