Smith spent the 2024 season with the Red Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. During his time in Boston, Smith quickly became well-liked among the fans. But once Triston Casas was activated from the injured list Boston designated Smith for assignment before ultimately releasing him.

The New York Yankees added some depth on Monday, signing Dominic Smith to a minor league deal, the YES Network’s Jack Curry reported. Smith, a first baseman and outfielder, played for the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds last season.

The New York Yankees still have multiple positions to fill from this point until the start of the 2025 season. They need a second baseman (or third baseman, thanks to Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s versatility) and lefty relievers,
