Elections in Greenland don't tend to draw much outside attention. President Donald Trump's expansionist designs on it have changed that.

Greenland’s pro-business opposition party won the Arctic island’s closely-watched parliamentary election on Tuesday, following a race dominated both by US President Donald Trump’s annexation threat and growing calls from residents for independence from Denmark.

The New York Times said the party was likely to enter a coalition with Inuit Ataqatigiit, a moderate party that came in third in this week’s election with 21.4% of the vote. Its leader is the current prime minister, Múte Egede, who has also dismissed joining the United States.
