Egypt has lowered its real gross domestic product (GDP) growth target for its upcoming financial year which begins in July to 5.5%, the cabinet said on Tuesday citing the planning minister.

Egypt’s GDP growth rate was 2.4% in the fourth quarter of the 2023/24 year, bringing the annual growth rate to 2.4%, down from 3.8% a year earlier, the planning ministry said on Thursday.

The sector's contribution to GDP growth has steadily improved, rising from -1.4 percentage points in Q2 FY 2023/24 to 1.9 points of the 4.3% overall growth this quarter.
