At least 52 of the 1,000 National Park Service employees abruptly fired by the Trump administration last month worked in Colorado, according to an unofficial tally crowdsourced by park rangers throughout the country.

Thomas Irwin, 73, of Indianapolis, was last seen on Jan. 15, 2024, while hiking the Petroglyph Point Train in the national park located in southwestern Colorado. His family contacted the park the next day, and a search and rescue operation began, the National Park Service said in a news release on Monday.

The body of a hiker missing inside a Colorado national park for over a year has been found, officials said. National Park Service Rangers found the remains of Thomas Irwin, a 73-year-old from Indianapolis, Indiana, the agency said in a March 3 news release.

A man vanished inside a rugged, remote national park in Colorado and has been missing for nearly two weeks, officials said. Jordan Marsters, a 31-year-old from Denver, was traveling through Grand Junction on Feb. 11 and Montrose on Feb. 12, National Park Service officials said in a news release.

The remains of a 73-year-old Indianapolis man who went missing more than a year ago while hiking in Colorado’s Mesa Verde National Park have been located, officials said.
