Flights can be delayed for many reasons — weather, mechanical issues, staffing shortages. A recent Delta flight was tardy taking off from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport over the weekend because a couple of unauthorized pigeons tried to catch a ride.

Two stowaway pigeons caused a plane departing from Minneapolis to return to the gate twice so the birds could be removed by baggage handlers.

A flight from Minneapolis to Madison, Wisconsin was delayed Saturday after two birds tried to stow away on the aircraft. The apparent wild pigeons were on Delta Air Lines flight 2348, along with 119 passengers and five crew members.
