BEAVERTON, Ore. — Nike plans to lay off 740 employees at its world headquarters in Beaverton by June 28, according to a notice the footwear and apparel giant sent to state officials.

Nike Inc. on Friday said that some 740 employees at its global headquarters in Oregon will have been laid off by June 28, as the sports-apparel giant tries to trim expenses amid weaker sneaker demand.

According to Nike's Manufacturing Map, the company has 45 factories in Indonesia, employing nearly 282,000 workers. Nearly 77% of those workers are female.
