The MacBook Pro's entry-level version features an Apple M4 chip with a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. Aside from the entry-level 13-inch model, which has an 8-core GPU, every new MacBook Air is equipped with the same silicon as the Pro.

The 13-inch and 15-inch laptops are faster and, with the lower starting price of $999, more affordable. Need a desktop? Apple has also refreshed the Mac Studio.

Still, the new M4 MacBook Air is impressively powerful. I put it through GeekBench's CPU test and got great results: a 3,778 single-core score, and a 14,992 multi-core score. That's considerably faster than any earlier Mac when it comes to single-core operation, and roughly on par with an M2 Max when it comes to multi-core operation.
