Tesla has recalled more than 370,000 vehicles for a power steering issue.

Tesla said on Friday it was recalling nearly 380,000 vehicles in the United States due to a power steering assist failure that could increase steering effort, particularly at low speeds, potentially raising the risk of a crash.

Loss of power steering caused by overstressed motor drive components will require increased steering effort from driver, raising risk of crash, NHTSA says.

The recall is for certain 2023 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles operating software prior to 2023.38.4, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The circuit board for the electronic power steering assist could experience what recall documents call an “overstress condition,” which would result in a loss of power assisted steering when the vehicle stops and then accelerates again, which cold increase the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

The recall involves some 2023 Tesla Model 3s and some 2023 Tesla Model Ys, according to the recall report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
