A giant orange mole has popped up on the otherwise manicured lawns of a National Trust property in the Peak District. The 4m (13ft) sculpture, called Pepperpot, is in Ilam Park in Staffordshire. It is set amid nearby Thorpe Cloud and the YHA Ilam Hall youth hostel and will be in place until 2 November.

An extremely rare and foul-smelling flower has reached its peak bloom in Dover, Massachusetts. The amorphophallus titanum, or corpse flower, only blooms once every 10 years for a 24-hour period. The flower, named Eliza, can currently be seen at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in Dover.
Planners have granted permission for a new access road to be built to a quarry in the Peak District. Derbyshire County Council approved a plan by applicant Ben Bennett Jr Ltd, for a new haul road on 0.84 hectares of land east of Grange Mill Quarry, near Wirksworth.
