NYPD announced a change in its policy on high-speed chases​. There's a new directive to keep the public, and officers, safe while catching criminals.

New York City’s police department is cracking down on high-speed chases after finding that about one-quarter of more than 2,200 initiated last year led to a collision, property damage, physical harm or death.

Under the new policy, NYPD officers will only chase suspects involved in felonies or violent crimes and rely on “advanced tools of modern-day policing” to track other fleeing

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced on Wednesday a new policy for Police Department vehicle pursuits. The policy sets guidelines and standards for when officers are permitted to engage in vehicle pursuits.
