An avalanche buried a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp near Mana, Uttarakhand, trapping 55 workers. So far, 33 have been rescued, while 22 remain unaccounted for as night and worsening weather have forced a pause in operations.

The actual number of trapped workers was subsequently found out to be 55, not 57 as initially reported. Two of the BRO workers at the camp site were on leave, officials said.

The avalanche, which engulfed the BRO camp situated between Mana and Badrinath, struck early on Friday morning. Several rescue teams braved the rugged terrain, deep snow, and freezing temperatures to reach the trapped workers.
