The country is one of the most popular destinations for many Americans offering spectacular city breaks in the likes of Rome, Bologna, Florence and Venice.

While a Level 2 warning is the second lowest on the State Department’s scale, the agency says travelers should remain aware of their surroundings when visiting. In particular, the advisory says visitors should stay alert in tourist areas as they can be targeted in an attack.

However, the US government has given an updated travel warning for Italy.On May 23, the US State Department has issued Level 2 travel warning for Italy, that means “exercise increased caution” because of possible terrorism.
